Note: Enrollment at the Peabody Institute does not guarantee admission to the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences, Whiting School of Engineering, or the Peabody Double Degree Program. Students must complete the internal transfer application, which will be reviewed by the admissions committee.

Transfer Eligibility

The following eligibility applies to all transfer applicants, including Peabody students.

  • We accept transfer students into our entering sophomore and junior classes for the fall semester only.
  • Applications are open to students who haven’t completed their bachelor’s degree or equivalent at another institution. If you’ve already earned a degree, we encourage you to explore our graduate programs for more opportunities to pursue your interests.
  • Transfer applicants must have graduated high school and completed more than 12 semester-based credits at another institution. If you’ve graduated from high school and enrolled in college but don’t have more than 12 credits, or you’re enrolled in a dual enrollment or early college program, you should apply as a first-year student.

    2024-2025 Supplemental Essay prompt

How has your life experience contributed to your personal story—your character, values, perspectives, or skills—and what you want to pursue at Hopkins? (350-word limit)

The supplemental essay helps the admissions committee get a sense of how your interests and values align with the opportunities available at Hopkins.

In this essay question, we’re looking for how your background, life experiences, or interests have shaped who you are and what you want to get out of college.

This can be a future goal or experience you hope to pursue at Hopkins that is academic, extracurricular, or social, or how you hope to approach your college experience as a scholar, leader, or community member.

Wondering how to get started? An admissions counselor shares tips on crafting your personal essay.

  • Official high school and college transcripts

You do not need to submit these documents yourself. We will coordinate with the Office of Registrar at Peabody and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to receive your high school and college transcripts.

  • College Officials Report

Download the report through the Common Application or our website and share it with your college official. They must email the completed form to applyhelp@jhu.edu.

  • Recommendation from an instructor or professor (OPTIONAL)

An evaluation from a current instructor provides insight into your academic performance and helps us understand what type of student you are. If you choose to include a letter of recommendation as part of your application, your instructor can email it to us at applyhelp@jhu.edu.
