Westgate Scholarship

Attracting exceptional students to the Whiting School of Engineering.

The Charles R. Westgate Scholarship in Engineering is a merit scholarship that provides full tuition for four years of undergraduate study in engineering. Students in any engineering major may be considered for the scholarship. Up to two scholarships are available for entering students each year.

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered for the Westgate Scholarship, students must:

  • Apply as a first-year applicant 
  • Indicate an interest in majoring in engineering 
  • Present an outstanding high school record and achievements in other areas, including leadership, success in science fairs, and evidence of independent research

The Westgate Scholarship may be renewed annually for a total of four years of undergraduate study based on continued enrollment in the Whiting School of Engineering and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. 

A scholarship committee will choose among the qualified applicants; no separate application is needed. Notification of selection will be made at the time of admission.

ABOUT THE DONOR

The Westgate Scholarship is made possible through a gift from Kwok-Leung Li, a graduate of the Electrical Engineering Department. Mr. Li achieved great success as an entrepreneur in the communications and network industries. The scholarships are named in honor of Charles R. Westgate, the former professor of Electrical Engineering and former interim dean of the Whiting School of Engineering. He has been widely recognized for his excellence in teaching and his interest in helping students in independent research and guided study.
