Excel Youth Conference is a free, one-day event for high school students and families from the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas. This is a chance for students in our community and their families and support systems to learn how to successfully navigate the college search and application process.

Check-In and Breakfast
8–9 a.m.Check in to receive your schedule for the day, then enjoy breakfast while mingling with admissions staff and other families from the Baltimore and Washinton, DC areas.

Welcome
9–9:30 a.m.Start the program with a warm welcome to Hopkins, featuring opening remarks from our Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Admissions.

Workshops
9:45–10:30 a.m.Students Only – Choose a Workshop
College Search Workshop (Grades 9, 10, and 11)
Identify which factors matter most to you as you decide which colleges to apply to. You’ll participate in exercises that will help you build your college list.
Telling Your Story Workshop (grades 11 and 12)
Learn how to tell your most authentic story in the application through exercises led by a member of our admissions committee. You’ll also review examples of successful essays.
Family & Guests Only
Preparing for the College Journey: Advice From the Experts
This panel provides parents, guardians, and mentors with an opportunity to learn about the college application process through conversations with local college counseling experts. You’ll have the opportunity to get your questions answered so you and your student can navigate this process with confidence.

Hopkins Information Session
10:45–11:45 a.m.Get a deeper understanding of who we are, from our academic approach to our admissions process and financial aid. Our admissions and Student Financial Support staff will discuss what it’s like to live and learn at Hopkins, what we look for in applications, and how we make a world-class education financially possible.

Lunch
12–12:45 p.m.Take a break to eat lunch provided by Hopkins Dining and connect with our admissions staff.

Campus Tour (Optional)
1–2 p.m.Explore our Homewood campus with a student guide. This is your chance to learn about our residential life, state-of-the-art facilities, and how students participate in our community directly from a current Blue Jay.
