Transfer Application Deadlines & Requirements
Deadlines and requirements for transfer students are different from first-year applicants.
To make sure your application is processed on time, carefully review the upcoming deadlines, then follow the instructions on the Common Application to create an account and begin your transfer application.
TRANSFER ELIGIBILITY
- We accept transfer applicants for the fall semester only.
- Applications are open to students who haven’t completed their bachelor’s degree or equivalent at another institution. If you’ve already earned a degree, we encourage you to explore our graduate programs for more opportunities to pursue your interests.
- Transfer applicants must have graduated high school and completed more than 12 semester-based credits at another institution. If you’ve graduated from high school and enrolled in college but don’t have more than 12 credits, or you’re enrolled in a dual enrollment or early college program, you should apply as a first-year applicant.
application requirements
1. Common Application with essay
The essay helps us understand who you are and what you want out of your Hopkins experience. In 300-500 words, you’ll be asked to answer the following question in a way that demonstrates the unique perspective you might add to our community.
Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 in a spirit of exploration and discovery. Please explain in detail why you wish to transfer to Hopkins specifically, given your current interests, and the opportunities available at Hopkins.
2. A $70 non-refundable application fee or waiver
If the application fee poses a financial hardship, you can request a fee waiver directly in the Common Application.
3. Official high school and college transcripts
Have these sent directly from your college/university and high school through the Common Application, mailed to the undergraduate office, or emailed to applyhelp@jhu.edu.
4. College Officials Report
Download the report through the Common Application or our website and share it with your college official. They must email the completed form to applyhelp@jhu.edu.
5. Recommendation from an instructor or professor
An evaluation from a current instructor provides insight into your academic performance and helps us understand what type of student you are. Your instructor can submit their recommendation through the Common Application or email it to us at applyhelp@jhu.edu.
6. Financial aid application (optional)
Financial aid is available for domestic transfer students only. If you’re an international transfer student and need help paying for college, you can seek out private loans to cover your college costs. Most lenders require a co-signer who is a U.S. citizen. More information is available on our Financial Aid page.
