Supporting Your Students Through the Application Process
We understand there’s a lot that goes into applying to colleges. We encourage you and your students to take the following steps.
Before the application
- Read through Preparing for College for recommendations on how students can make the most of their high school experience.
- Attend an event to learn more about Hopkins and determine if it’s a community your students would like to join.
- Parents, guardians, and other members of your student’s support system (including yourself) are welcome to attend our workshops and events. Please note the content will be geared towards students unless otherwise specified.
- Get familiar with what we look for in applications.
- Review our application deadlines and requirements.
- We offer three admissions plans—Early Decision I, Early Decision II, and Regular Decision. If you work with students whose first-choice college is Hopkins, we strongly recommend they consider applying Early Decision.
- Check our Frequently Asked Questions for answers to the questions we most often receive.
- Contact their regional admissions counselor with any specific questions.
Submitting the application
The application is your student’s chance to show us who they’ll be in our community. We want to know what motivates them, what they’re interested in inside and outside the classroom, and what kind of impact they’ve had within their own communities.
Students can apply through the Common Application or Coalition on Scoir. If you are sending application materials directly to us, such as the school profile and letter of recommendation, please email them to applyhelp@jhu.edu. Make sure you include the student’s name, high school, and application ID number.
Please refer to our application deadlines and requirements for specific dates and materials needed.
After the application
After your student submits their materials, we’ll send you an email if there are any missing documents.
Students can view their application checklist in their applicant portal. They’ll also receive their admissions decision through the same portal on our decision release dates, which we announce every year on August 1.
Their applicant portal will include information about financial aid and any merit scholarships. We are not able to release decisions over the phone.
