Academic Culture

“I enrolled at Hopkins for the beautiful campus, outgoing students, and the lack of core curriculum, which has allowed me to explore my interests in both the natural and social sciences as well as dabble in a history class or two.”
—Elena A., ’17

See what current students have to say about academics at Hopkins.

Freedom to explore. With no core curriculum, Hopkins students have the freedom to explore their academic interests and combine them in interesting ways.

Along the way, some of them discover new paths to follow—Senior Caleb B. came to Hopkins thinking he knew exactly what he wanted to do. Then one class changed everything.

Joy of discovery. As active participants in their own education, students are constantly connecting ideas and pursuing answers to questions that haven’t been asked yet.

Collaboration and innovation. Our students take classes across schools and disciplines, working together to make great discoveries and stretch traditional academic boundaries.

Support and guidance. Advisers, faculty mentors, and peer groups create a supportive network to help students navigate their options.

“Every professor has inspired me in one way or another. They tie real-world experiences into their lectures and show interest in your future.”
—Trevor H., ’16
