Mechanical Engineering

Preparing the next generation of leaders in mechanical engineering with design and research experiences.

As a mechanical engineering major, you’ll build competence in the analysis, design, and modeling of fluid and solid systems while developing social and economic context and the communication skills necessary to excel. Our graduates are a select group of science-oriented engineers who become leaders among their peers in the best graduate programs in engineering, science, medical schools, law schools, and in industry, government laboratories, and other organizations.

CLASSES YOU MIGHT TAKE

Introduction to Mechanics I

This course offers an in-depth study of the fundamental elements of classical mechanics, including particle and rigid body kinematics and kinetics, and work-energy and momentum principles.

Electronics & Instrumentation

You’ll be introduced to basic analog electronics and instrumentation with emphasis on elementary electronic devices and techniques relevant to mechanical engineering.

Introduction to Fluid Mechanics

This course introduces the fundamental mathematical tools and physical insight necessary to approach realistic fluid flow problems in engineering systems. We emphasize mathematical formulation, engineering applications, and problem solving.

Student Spotlight

A team of undergraduate mechanical engineering students in our Whiting School of Engineering is working in partnership with Blind Industries and Services of Maryland to develop a system that will allow blind individuals to manufacture canes right here in Baltimore.
