Behavioral Biology
Examine the complex interplay between environment and behavior and the processes and mechanisms that underlie behavior.
From neuroscience labs to animal behavior to human sexuality, the interdisciplinary Behavioral Biology program will allow you to establish a greater understanding of the relations of brain and behavior. Students learn how to integrate scientific discoveries from a wide variety of fields of inquiry, from molecular biology to sociology.
CLASSES YOU MIGHT TAKE
Applying Cognitive Neuroscience to Artificial Intelligence
As a myriad of artificial intelligence enabled autonomous systems enter into our lives and change how we live, we must ask: can we trust these systems? We’ll identify why and how insights from human perception and cognition can guide solutions for reliable, resilient, and robust autonomous systems.
Origins of the Social Mind
Humans possess remarkable capacities for morality, politics, and culture. But where do these capacities come from and what cognitive mechanisms support them? In this seminar, we’ll explore how nonhuman animals, especially primates, represent and navigate their social worlds, and what makes the human mind unique.
Sensory Representation in the Brain: Maps, Modules & Distributed Coding
Explore the ways in which information from vision, hearing, touch, smell, and taste is encoded in the brain. We’ll compare and contrast different representation schemes and their computational advantages in order to uncover some overarching organizing principles of sensory processing in the brain.
