Baltimore Scholars Program
The Johns Hopkins University is proud to offer the Baltimore Scholars Program, a generous, two-tiered financial aid program that recognizes high-achieving Baltimore City public school graduates from families that earn up to $150,000 and have typical assets.
Under the Baltimore Scholars Program, eligible students with family incomes of $80,000 or less receive full cost-of-attendance scholarships covering tuition, room and board, and fees. Students with family incomes between $80,000 and $150,000 have a family contribution capped at 10% of family income.
In addition to the financial award, the Baltimore Scholars Program provides robust programming that enhances the undergraduate experience throughout a scholar’s four years. Opportunities like paid internships, peer and faculty mentoring, career networking, and connections with alumni enhance the undergraduate experience. Scholars also have access to specialized programming—dinners with deans and senior faculty and administrators; lecture series; and scholar retreats—as well as supplemental funds for internship, research, and study abroad opportunities.
The Baltimore Scholars Program is a reflection of the university’s long-standing investment in the students of Baltimore and its public school system and recognizes the best and brightest students from the communities around our home base. Graduates of the program have gone on to attend graduate school at premier universities, become engineers for the country’s leading companies, and serve as leaders in a wide variety of industries.
The Baltimore Scholars Program provides families making less than $150,000 the following support:
For families making $80,000 or less: The scholarship covers full cost of attendance, including tuition, room and board (housing and meals), fees, books, and other associated costs.
For families making $80,000-$150,000: Family contribution is capped at 10 percent of total family income. (For example, a Baltimore Scholar whose household income was $100,000 would be asked to pay about $10,000 toward their education each year, and the scholarship will meet the remaining cost.)
To be considered for the scholarship, students must:
- be graduates of a Baltimore City public school or charter school
- have been a Baltimore City resident and attended a Baltimore City public school or eligible charter school for at least 10th, 11th, and 12th grades
- be a full-time, first-year, and first-time degree-seeking student
- submit all required financial aid documents by the deadline (Note: If you would like to request a waiver for the CSS PROFILE, please contact our Office of Student Financial Services at firstname.lastname@example.org)
In addition, students’ families must meet the income eligibility requirements.
A separate application for this program is not required. Students who meet the eligibility requirements and are admitted to Johns Hopkins will automatically become a Baltimore Scholar.
