Admissions counselors are staff members within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions who facilitate the recruitment and application review process of applicants. At Hopkins, we’re also meant to be a resource you can use as you navigate your journey to college. 

Let’s first look at what an admissions counselor does and doesn’t do. 

What we do:  

  • Answer questions about applying to Hopkins and anything you’d like to know about the undergraduate experience. 
  • Provide high school students, families, and counselors with programming and tools, often by hosting virtual and in-person events. Throughout the year, we might also travel to your home state or country to visit your high school or local college fair. Each admissions counselor oversees a region, which allows us to become familiar with your state’s curriculum or school trends and gives us additional context during our holistic review. 
  • Help build Hopkins’ campus community by evaluating applications through a holistic, committee-based review. 

What we don’t do:

  • Provide individual feedback on your application materials. The application is your chance to tell us who you are, so your responses should be in your voice. We’re happy to provide advice on how to approach different parts of the application, like making the most of your college essays or creating an impactful activities list. If you’re interested in application exercises and tips, our virtual workshops and video series are great places to get them! 
  • Give updates on your application during the review process. 
  • Share information about admissions decisions. The discussions in our committee room are confidential, and we are unable to disclose how we arrived at our decisions—even if you’re admitted. 
  • Answer admissions questions about graduate schools at Hopkins, including the School of Medicine (those have separate admissions offices).

Each applicant has a unique lived and learned experience and might want to learn specific pieces of information about our community. We’re here to help you figure out how Hopkins might be a match for you.”
