Welcome to New York! This summer, I have been busy working as an editorial intern at Malala Fund, an organization founded by student and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai that works for a world where all girls can attend schools K-12. It is a nonprofit organization that invests in local education activists, advocates to hold leaders accountable and amplifies the voices of girls.
As I mentioned in a previous blog, I’ve missed getting involved in service activities. So, when I got home from Hopkins for the summer, I began looking for internships on Handshake, an online program that connects Hopkins students to internships. I came across many good options, but once I saw that Malala Fund was hiring, I took them all of my list and perfected my resume and cover letter for days until the deadline.
After a few more interviewers, I was offered the job! Fast forward twelve weeks, I have learned an invaluable amount from my internship here. It’s even hard to avoid formatting this blog in accordance with our style guide! Working with the communications team here has been amazing, and all of our hard work has culminated in the publication of Assembly, Malala Fund’s new digital publication and newsletter that shares stories of young girls around the world doing amazing in their communities. I feel inspired and hopeful reading the blogs on Assembly, and it’s amazing to be a part of it.
So, I’ve decided to record a video of a day in my life working at Malala Fund. Special shoutout to all of the communications team, especially Tess, a fellow blue jay and a great friend.
