One club that I joined last year is called Advocates for Baltimore Community Health or ABC Health. ABC Health differs from other clubs at Hopkins in that we participate in a variety of volunteer options. For example, we have monthly trips to the local farmer’s market to present health information, preventative care tips, and free resources to the local community. Our topics range from Nutrition and Easy Recipes to finding cheap and free transportation around Baltimore. We also volunteer at offsite locations for health-related organizations such as local clinics and food banks.

Like most clubs at Hopkins, ABC Health is student-run. Our meetings typically focus on planning our next events and a small volunteering activity. At our last meeting, we food packages to donate to the homeless and the meeting before that we made cards to send to the children’s hospital.

This past Saturday, we woke up super early to volunteer at the Rock Your Socks to Health & Home 5K, a run put on by the Health Care for the Homeless organization. The event was raising money to help vulnerable members of the community move towards health, stability, and a safe home.
