Hi y’all! As a tour guide, a question I get asked a lot is what a typical day at Hopkins is like for me. So, I wanted to give you guys a quick run-down of a normal Tuesday this semester here on campus!
7:30 A.M.- Good Morning!
I like to get my mornings started early, as it’ll give me plenty of time to get ready for the day. I usually wake up, quickly clean up my room, get dressed, and sit down to read up on the daily news and review my notes before class.
8:30 to 8:50 AM – Breakfast
I meet up with a couple friends to grab breakfast before our first class of the day! I really enjoy breakfast at the FFC, as they have lots of fresh options each day!
9:00 AM to 10:15 AM- Class: Introduction to Expository Writing
Intro to Expos is a class that I really enjoy! The class is very small with a great professor, and we are currently working on evaluating elements of academic argument.
10:15 AM to 1:15 PM- Studying and Lunch
After my expos class, I head to levering where I sit and do work in the cafe area because there’s a lot of table space. Then, before I head over to my next class, I go downstairs to Levering Kitchens and eat lunch. Levering Kitchens has a lot of great options!
1:30 PM to 2:20 PM- Class: Calculus Section
Since calculus classes tend to be fairly large, there are smaller sections which meet once a week with a Teaching Assistant. I find this to be very useful, as we are able to go over questions and practice problems in a small group.
2:30 PM to 3:00 PM- Break time/Running Errands
Since I only have about a half hour between my calculus class and my next class, I usually sit in Gilman atrium and just take a break. Sometimes I use this time to respond to emails, plan the rest of my day/fill out my planner, etc.
3:00 PM to 4:15 PM- Class: Introduction to Public Health
Location: Gilman Hall (same as the expos class earlier this morning)
Intro to Public Health is the first requirement towards my Public Health major. I really enjoy this class, as it gives students a broad overview of what public health actually is. Also, the readings tend to be interesting and very relevant to the real world.
4:30 PM- 7:00 PM: Study!
After class, I head over to Brody to do homework, study for exams, etc. for a couple hours!
7:00 PM to 7:45 PM- Dinner and a Quick Break
Location: Fresh Food Cafe (just like earlier in the day at breakfast)
I usually meet up with a few friends for dinner around this time! It’s nice to take a break to catch up with each other and relax for a bit before we continue on our days!
8:00 PM- 9:30 PM- PILOT for Calculus
PILOT is a great academic resource offered at Hopkins! PILOT is a program that meets once a week, and it is led by a student who has previously taken a course and done well in that course. We usually work on problem sets and go over concepts we’re learning in class.
9:45 PM to 11 PM- Workout
I usually try to go to the Rec center 3-4 times a week! It offers a variety of equipment, fitness classes, etc. for students with all kinds of interests. Today’s workout consisted of running, biking, and a bit of weight training!
11:15 PM to 1:00 AM- Shower, Finishing Up Work, Calling Home, Relaxing, etc.
Location: AMR III Building B (same place we started the day!)
Usually, I take a little bit of time to finish up any remaining work or studying after I come back from the gym and shower. I also call home every day, and I typically do so at the end of the day. Every night, I make sure to take some time to relax and catch up with my roommates before I go to bed!
1:00 AM- Good Night!
Thanks for tuning into a day in my life!
Until Next Time, Neha
