Read my blog: The Breezeway—Kate T.

Hometown: Redding, CT

Major / Minor: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering / French Cultural Studies minor

Current residence: Off-campus

Past residence: AMR II, Clark—Check out my Cribs video, Homewood Apartments

Campus involvement: French Club, Research in the Engineering in Oncology Lab, Blue Key Society, Engineering Ambassadors

Why I chose Johns Hopkins: I chose Johns Hopkins because I loved the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and French departments; the Chemical Engineering Department was focusing on what I was interested in researching and the French Department had so many interesting and unique classes (including ones about slang and elegant French). When I visited after I was accepted, I loved the people I met and couldn't wait to enroll at Johns Hopkins!

Why I'm glad I chose Johns Hopkins: The people here are all so nice, the professors are all so brilliant, and the opportunities on and off campus are amazing.

My favorite character from a movie/book/television series: Holly Golighty

Favorite place on the Homewood campus: My favorite place on the Homewood campus is Gilman atrium. It is literally the most gorgeous building ever!

Favorite place in Baltimore: My favorite place in Baltimore is the Book Thing, a place where you can get free books. I love thrift shopping, but the Book Thing is even better because there is no cost. There are so many unique books there; one of my favorites I've picked out was Khrushchev's Russia. It's a great thing to do on a Saturday morning after you go to the farmers' market.

Coolest (spring/summer/winter) break experience: My coolest break experience was when I went to France with a couple of my classmates. Half of the time we spent in Paris (which was so much fun because the classmates were awesome people and I love Paris) and half of the time I spent with a host family. It was really interesting to learn all about the differences in culture and home life and it improved my French tenfold. I can't wait to go back to France!

Three unusual things about myself:

  1. I was born with teeth (incisors). The doctors thought they were my milk teeth and pulled them out. They were my baby teeth and I was without two bottom teeth for 8 years, making it very easy to use a thermometer.
  2. I am a chocoholic. I love all things cocoa.
  3. I was in a rock band when I was 12. It lasted a week.
