Hometown: Houston, TX

Major/Minor: Biomedical Engineering major; Economics minor

Current residence: Bradford Apartments

Campus involvement: Admissions volunteer and interviewer; Hopkins Emergency Response Unit; Hopkins Emergency Response Teaching Unit; JHU Model UN Conference; Biomedical Engineering Society

Why I chose Johns Hopkins: Hopkins wasn't really one of my top choices when I was considering different universities, and I applied on a whim. Once I got in, I came to visit, stayed overnight with some current students, and had a great time.

Favorite class: The biomedical engineering freshman design class. At most schools, students don't get involved in design projects until their senior year, but here, it's an opportunity available to everyone!

What myth about Johns Hopkins frustrates you the most? Before I came here, I had heard about the reputation that all Hopkins students are cut-throat premeds. Yes, everyone at Hopkins wants to do well, but most students realize that they need to be able to work cooperatively with their peers, not compete against them.

My favorite Johns Hopkins memory so far: My entire freshman year! I had two great RAs and a really cool group of people in my building. We would hang out in the hallways all night, go out and explore Baltimore, have snowball fights whenever it snowed, and make middle-of-the-night trips to Paper Moon Diner.

Where I see myself in 10 years: I hope to have graduated from an M.D./Ph.D. program and be in the middle of my residency.

Three unusual things about myself:
  1. I've been attacked by a kangaroo while on vacation in Australia.
  2. My name means "engrossed."
  3. I'm from Texas and proud of it! I still say "y'all" and wear my Texas t-shirts on campus.
