Hometown: Alexandria, VA
Major/Minor: Public health studies (social science), film and media studies minor
Current residence: AMR II Baker House
Campus involvement: Habitat for Humanity, Hopkins Wind Ensemble
Why I chose Johns Hopkins: I felt like Hopkins would provide me with the challenge I need academically. Also, the student body is incredibly diverse and involved. Last but not least, I love the location and the campus.
Favorite class: My favorite class is French because it's all new to me and incredibly hard, but that's what makes it fun!
What is the biggest difference between high school and Johns Hopkins that you have experienced? I have so much more time as a college student. Instead of having seven hours of class every day, I only have two to four hours every other day. Having to schedule out my day accordingly has been a challenge. I have to be very careful not to give myself too much leisure time!
What myth about Johns Hopkins frustrates you the most? That people here are competitive. I've not encountered that once since I've been here. Actually, I've found everyone here to be extremely helpful and willing to explain things to me if I'm having trouble.
Why I am glad I chose Hopkins: Hopkins has given me the opportunity to explore areas of study that I didn't have access to in high school. The people here are not only incredibly intelligent, but also extremely fun. Not to mention that Hopkins has so many fun activities and clubs to get involved with.
My ideal three-day weekend: Sleeping, eating, staying in and watching movies with my floormates, and relishing the time I have to be lazy.
Three unusual things about myself:
- I ate my first salad EVER last November.
- The spelling of my name is derived from a family tradition that uses number-letter associations. That's why the pronunciation is so far removed from the spelling.
- I've traveled to 18 countries (yes, I think the Vatican counts).
