Class of 2012
Read my blog: A College Canvas
Hometown: Wakefield, MA
Major/Minor: Mechanical engineering
Current residence: AMR II Jennings
Campus involvement: Club Lacrosse, Orientation Ambassador, DSAGA, JHU Student Art
Why I chose Johns Hopkins: I loved the campus when I came to visit, and the pros of living in a city outweighed the cons.
Favorite class: My favorite class as of right now is Portuguese Elements, probably because Portuguese is part of my heritage.
What is the biggest difference between high school and Johns Hopkins that you have experienced? The main difference that I have found is the freedom in college. You're mainly able to do whatever you want, when you want. But also, you're responsible for all your time management, so it's a nice balance.
What myth about Johns Hopkins frustrates you the most? The biggest myth that frustrates me about Johns Hopkins is that all the students are pre-med, when they're really not. The majority of people are not pre-meds at all; in fact, I only know about five pre-med students personally.
Why I am glad I chose Hopkins: The atmosphere here is really cool, everyone is really nice, and everyone gets along rather well. Most of the people are also down to earth, which is very nice for such a prestigious school.
My ideal three-day weekend: Relaxing around the dorm, followed by traveling somewhere local for a day, such as D.C. or visiting my sister in New Jersey. Other than that, I would most likely just explore the city.
Three unusual things about myself:
- I'm not a diehard Red Sox fan, even though I'm from Boston.
- I'm really into art, even though I'm an engineer.
- My music tastes vary from "hardcore" techno to soft acoustic.
