Josh G.
Class of 2011
Read my blog: The Reel Life of Josh
Hometown: Park Ridge, NJ
Major/Minor: Film and media studies, psychology (minor)
Current residence: Off-campus
Campus involvement: SAAB, Johns Hopkins Film Society, Blue Key, Intermediate Film Production TA
Why I chose Johns Hopkins: It's great across the board academically, which is good because I was not sure what I really wanted to study. It's also in a city while still providing a campus atmosphere.
What is the biggest difference between high school and Johns Hopkins that you have experienced? At Johns Hopkins, the individuals are more in control of what they do. There is always something going on around campus. Unlike I anticipated, I have become great at managing time and finding a way to do everything I want.
What myth about Johns Hopkins frustrates you the most? People think this is a school only for premeds and engineers, which is completely false.
Where I see myself in 10 years: I would hope to be a highly acclaimed independent filmmaker. My fall back plan is to at least be teaching film at a university somewhere or at the very least to be teaching something somewhere. Who knows? Ten years is half the time I've lived so far so I still have a while to get there.
Favorite spot on the Homewood campus: The terrace outside Café Q because it is usually quiet and is a really relaxing place to sit outside on a nice day. Plus you can see many different spots on campus from there.
Three unusual things about myself:
- I have recorded a CD.
- I am Jewish but went to an all-boys Catholic school.
- I had a dog named after Sisqo, a.k.a. the singer of "The Thong Song."
