Jessica K.
Class of 2011
Read my blog: Caught In-Between—Jessica K.
Hometown: Tenafly, NJ
Major/Minor: Public health studies (social sciences concentration) and environmental studies (minor)
Current residence: Homewood Apartments
Campus involvement: Center for a Livable Future at JHSPH Research Assistant, Public Health Student Forum, Student Admissions Advisory Board, Circle K, Admissions Representative
Why I chose Johns Hopkins: I chose Hopkins because of the vibe I got when I visited. I could tell that Hopkins not only had a beautiful mid-sized campus, but one filled with a unique student body and tons of opportunities.
Favorite class: Global Public Health Since WWII—a history class that not only has interactive discussion sections, but engaging lectures that made the material easy to absorb.
What myth about Johns Hopkins frustrates you the most? I hate the myth that there's only one type of student here. The student body is diverse in many ways; there is definitely no typical Hopkins student.
Favorite spot on the Homewood campus: The Pura Vida coffeehouse in Levering Hall. This is a perfect spot between my classes. I usually go here and eat a snack in one of the comfy chairs while reading the newspaper.
Where I see myself in 10 years: If dreams can come true, then I would love to be doing international health research for the World Health Organization while working on becoming a professor.
Three unusual things about myself:
- I faint from blood, hospitals, and needles.
- I don't know what my natural hair color is.
- I don't like cooked vegetables, but I am a vegetarian.
