Andrew L.
Class of 2009
Read my guest blogs
Hometown: Manhattan, NY
Major/Minor: International studies major (with a concentration in international security)
Current residence: Off-campus
Campus involvement: Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Club Lacrosse
Why I chose Johns Hopkins: It's completely different than everything else I was exposed to my entire life. Hopkins brought something entirely fresh and exciting to the table, and when I was accepted, I knew it was the place for me.
Favorite class: The Arab-Israeli Conflict, which is in the Political Science Department and is taught by Professor Freedman. It's been extremely interesting and I'm really glad I took it.
What myth about Johns Hopkins frustrates you the most? That there is no social life here. While academics are certainly a priority, we do know how to have fun. Not all of us spend our Saturday nights doing work in the library, unless it's midterm or finals week.
Favorite spot on the Homewood campus: The Beach (the huge grassy area in front of the library). It's warm, and people play Frisbee and relax with their friends. There's really no reason not to like it.
Where I see myself in 10 years: Hopefully I'll be some type of lawyer. I'd like to continue living in Manhattan, too. High aspirations, I know. We'll see what happens.
Three unusual things about myself:
- I love the New York Mets.
- I consider myself an encyclopedia of music.
- I think the Back to the Future series is the best trilogy of all time. Sorry, Star Wars fans.
