AC: Short for the Newton H. White Athletic Center. Offices and locker rooms for all varsity teams are located here. It's connected to the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. Together, these two buildings let Hopkins students stay fit.
AMR: Alumni Memorial Residences. These two complexes (AMR I and AMR II) are subdivided into community groups called "houses." Freshmen live here among several other residence halls.
Arts & Crafts: It started off as what engineers called the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. Now Arts & Sciences students have adopted it as a tongue-in-cheek moniker. If you're lucky, you might catch a student walking around with an Arts & Crafts t-shirt.
Bawl'mer: Native tongue for "Baltimore."
The Beach: A big grassy field between N. Charles Street and the MSE Library where students relax, throw Frisbees, get tans, and enjoy wireless Internet.

BME: Biomedical engineering. Consistently ranked as the top program of its kind in the country.
BWI: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Even though it has "Washington" in the name, we pretty much claim it for Baltimore. It's preferred over Dulles International or Reagan National.

FFC: Short for Fresh Food Café, the freshman dining hall in AMR II.

Hon: Native tongue. You'll figure it out when you get here. It's a good thing.
Hop Cop: The nickname for Hopkins security officers. Not to be confused with the hired security company that you will also see off campus.
HopStop: A place for students to relax with food, televisions, couches, pool tables, and video games. Located on the second floor of Levering Hall.
The Hut: More formally known as the Hutzler Undergraduate Reading Room, this is the place to study late at night. Located in Gilman Hall, it's open 24/7. The leather couches in the lobby are great for breaks and naps.
IR: Shorthand for international relations. (International studies is one of the most popular majors on campus.)
IFP: Introduction to Fiction and Poetrya class essential to Writing Seminars and English majors. It's also popular for the premed English requirement.
J-Cash: Money put on your J-Card (ID card) that you can use at local establishments, laundry machines on campus, copiers, printers, and vending machines.
LAX: Short for lacrosse.
MSE: The Milton S. Eisenhower Library is our main library on campus. It's got five levels (four of them are underground), 2.6 million volumes, extensive electronic resources, a café for coffee breaks, and plenty of friendly librarians. The further down you go, the quieter it gets.
NEB: The New Engineering Building, connected to Shaffer Hall. It houses the administration of the Whiting School of Engineering plus some labs and classrooms, and is one of the hardest buildings to find on campus.
The Nest: Nickname for the student cheering section at Homewood Field during lacrosse games.
Occ Civ: Occidental Civilizationa common course for lots of majors.
