Admissions: The Philosophy
Wondering how we make our application decisions? You won't find the somewhat complicated answer to that question in this section; however, here is our office's philosophy on that topic:

Since its founding, Johns Hopkins University has been dedicated to discovering new things about the world and using that knowledge for the benefit of people everywhere. For generations we have enrolled students focused on this idea and our admissions process continues to identify those who want to participate in this extraordinary tradition at Johns Hopkins. We seek creative, ambitious students who value the learning process. Choosing each incoming class does not involve simply uniting a group of individuals; it is the building of a community. We want that community to be supportive and interesting—even exhilarating—to all Johns Hopkins students, allowing them to do things here that they might not achieve somewhere else.

In the Application section, you will find the required parts of the application that you'll need to submit. But keep in mind that these pieces are not, in themselves, all that we care about. We consider how well each applicant would benefit from being at Johns Hopkins and how each might contribute to our campus community. Our admissions committee carefully reads and thinks about applications and we do not have simple or formulaic ideas about the profile of an admitted student; rather, we believe that there are many ways to demonstrate your interest in learning and how you might bring something important to our community of students.

So, are you someone who is curious and cares about the world around you? Have you prepared yourself for college as best you can? Do you want to live in a community that has come from all over the world to enjoy a productive and lively college experience? If you think the answer to all of these questions is "yes," then Johns Hopkins University might be the kind of place for you. I hope you'll choose to apply for admission, and give us the chance to get to know you, so that we can consider together the prospect of your future here.
